Hi! My name is Susie Throop. I teach Math, Science, and Georgia Ecology STEM at MCAA.
I grew up in Rhode Island and have lived in Georgia for 18 years. It still surprises me to see flowers blooming in February! I graduated from Barrington College in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I taught in my home town for 3 years before taking an 11 year break to stay at home with my 3 boys. I returned to the classroom when my youngest son went to kindergarten. I have earned a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Kennesaw State University, and an Educational Specialist Degree from Piedmont College in Curriculum and Instruction. In 1998 I was voted to represent my school as Teacher of the year. I was also voted as MCAA's Teacher of the Year for 2007. I have been married to a wonderful husband for 31 years. He works with telecommunications for a company located in Norcross. He is an awesome singer who won my heart by serenading me in college! My oldest son, Adrian, teaches math at Marietta High School. This is his fourth year as a teacher and I could not be more proud. My second son, Zach, is a graduate of St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland. He became a new daddy last spring to a beautiful little girl named Emersen. My youngest son, Jacob, is a senior at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. He is studying music performance and plays a mean trumpet! Teaching is my passion. I believe that each child needs to be taught individually. When you visit my classroom you will notice a collection of pets, which brighten up our day. I strive to provide an environment in my classroom where students feel comfortable taking risks in their learning. I am so excited to be a part of Marietta Center for Advanced Academics! | |
